January - Week 03

This month has been flying by. . .and we have been in a particularly cold snap!!! We had several days where the high never got above 0. Now next week it seems like there might be an ice storm in our future. While I don't like snow, I'll take snow over ice any day!!! I am slowly but surley chipping away at my scrapping "to-do" list. Hopefully I can get these Christmas scrapbooks done this week. . .then I can move on to projects for this year :-) Here's what I've done this week so sit back and enjoy :-) Created using Created using And, that does it for me this week. I'm outta here to go find a nice warm spot in the house!!! Until next time. . .

January - Week 02

Well, the second week of January seems like a big unknown!!! Our weather forecast has ranged from close to a foot of snow to a couple of inches of rain. . .that's a big swing in forecasts. It is in a constant state of flux. We are trying to plan a trip to watch our granddaughter in a swim meet, but those plans are up in the air. I keep having flashbacks to one cold night in January when we sat still on an ice-covered interstate because 2 semis had jack-knifed and were completely blocking the road. That was NOT a fun night!!! The weather was clear when we left the house. . .our daughter was sick, her husband was out of the country and she had a new baby. Not 30 minutes from home it started raining. . .raining, not freezing rain. We had just past an exit on the interstate when things came to a standstill. That night I learned the importance of having a travel kit in the vehicle!!! I'm trying so hard to have a productive week. . .we will see if that happens. I do want to get the 2024 calendars done for the girls. . .that's my main goal. But I've done a bit of scrapping so here goes. . . Created using Created using And that is a wrap for me this week. . .now I'm outta here to go find a toasty warm place where the cat and I can snuggle up!!! Until next time. . .

January - Week 01

The first week of January is nearly in the books!!! It has been warm here this week, but that is going to change as soon as tonight. Over the next few days there are a series of winter weather events forecasted for our area. I think it is too soon to know if that is going to be in the form of rain, freezing rain or snow. Personally neither rain or snow bothers me, but an ice storm. . .we have had some doozies here in the past and I don't really care to go through that again!!! I've been so busy cleaning and straightening things. . .I look at my desk and the cords are all hidden so go me!!! With a clean area, I've been busy trying to finish up the crafted Christmas presents. It will feel so good once I have that done!!! But in the meantime I've done a little scrapping that I can share with you so here goes. . . Created using Created using Created using And that is all I have this week!!! Until next time. . .

December - Week 04 Special Edition

Well, here it is Christmas Eve!!! This was always a magical night when I was a child. Growing up on a dairy farm, it seemed like we always had a baby calf born on Christmas Eve. My whole family would sit around and wait for a new arrival. . .one Christmas Eve we actually had a set of twins born and they both survived. With dairy cows back in the day, that was truly a miracle. Then, there was always the anticipation of Santa's arrival. I think some of this was manufactured by my parents but when we had snow, there were always footprints leading from the barn to the house but NOT vise versa!!! Looking back I think my Dad walked backwards from the house to the barn and then retraced his steps so it looked like Santa traveled from the barn to the house and then vanished into thin air!!! Back then, my most memorable Christmas was the year I was so sick. . .I actually got to sleep in my parent's bed that Christmas Eve so Mom could keep and eye on me. When I woke up Christmas morning, Dad was gently waking me up and I could feel a nudge. I opened my eyes and saw a tiny pony colt standing by my bed!!! My first thought. . .I had died and there were horses in heaven!!! But no, Dad had gotten the pony from one of his friends who raised ponies. Smoky's mother had died giving birth and the colt was so weak that Dad's friend didn't think he would make it. . .so Dad told him he would take him. Dad was really good at taking care of animals and that pony flurished!!! That was my Christmas present that year. . .and yes, the pony was allowed in the house for a few minutes. . .truly magical!!! Now, fast forward a decade or two for another Christmas miracle!!! That Christmas I was pregnant with our first child. . .my due date was mid-January. And, keep in mind, my husband is the oldest in a large family. That Christmas I invited both sides of our family up for Christmas. And on the menu was of course turkey. Christmas morning, I got up and didn't want to wake my husband up so I waddled into the kitchen to fix that 26-pound turkey!!! Of course, the bird was on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator so I had a bit of a stuggle getting that thing out of the oven. Dinner went off without a hitch and since I had gotten up so early to fix the turkey, I went to bed early. However, shortly after midnight I woke up and didn't feel very good. . .kind of kept me awake all night, but I didn't want to wake up my husband, after all I had probably just eaten too much turkey. There was a regular pattern to the waves of pain and my husband eventually called his Mom who was an RN to ask what to do. She said we probably needed to get to the hospital - the doctor was out of the office that day. On the way out the door, the Phil Donohue show came on and it looked interesting so we watched it. Then we left for the hospital. . .I told my husband he should get something to eat since we might be at the hospital a while, so we drove through the McDonalds drive-thru. We got to the hospital and he dropped me off at the door. . .the nurses completely bypassed the ER and took me immediately to Labor and Delivery. I got settled into the bed, the nurse came in and the next thing I knew everything got frantic and I was quickly wheeled to the delivery room. Our daughter was born 31 minutes after arriving at the hospital!!! Good thing there wasn't a long line at McDonalds!!! Anyway, there are lots of Christmas Eve memories. . .but my purpose today is to share a couple of layouts with you so here goes. . . Created using Created using Created using Created using Created using And that is a definite wrap for this special edition. . .Wishing you a Merry Christmas, one where you make new friends and cherished memories!!!

December - Week 04

We are down to one more week in the year!!! Christmas is just around the corner but it sure doesn't feel like Christmas around here. . .neither one of our girls will be here for Christmas. Their kids are all getting older now and have so many activities to schedule around, I completely understand. And, I'm good if they make their own holiday traditions. . .that is kind of important in my mind. And the weather certainly isn't "Christmasy", it is going to be 60-degrees on Christmas Eve. . .what is wrong with THAT picture? In the back of my mind, I'm worried about potential storms should the winter weather move in!!! I'm still working on the Christmas crafts. . .that should be done in January. I just yesterday got photos that I need to finish some of those things. In the meantime, I've done some relaxing holiday scrapping so here goes. . . Created using Created using Created using Created using Created using Created using Created using And that is a "wrap" for me today. . .now I'm off to "spruce" up the house!!! Until next time. . .
